Knitting 101 – Part 2 – Problem Solving and Finishing

This is the second half of the Knitting 101 class that began Saturday morning. In this class you will problem solve your Saturday knitting and learn how to bind off your project.

9am – 12pm
with Hazel Spencer
Learn how to weave on a peg loom. We will weave a small mat which will show you all you need to get started with other projects from a nice rug to a hat or delicate scarf! The uses for this Traditional loom are nearly endless. It’s an easy weave, even your children will enjoy this loom with a little initial help. You can weave fine yarn, bulky yarns, handspun art yarns, repurposed fabric strips, bailing twine… Let your imagination loose!

9am – 12pm

Students will use wet felting skills and longwool locks to create a unique scarf or collar with lots of longwool fringe and embellishments. All materials and supplies provided in class to complete one finished scarf. A truly unique fashion creation!

11am – 12pm
with Sarah Liljegren
Learn to create your own natural, healthy skin creams using fresh herbs. Holistic herbalist Sarah Lilijgren will take you step-by-step through the process of creating your own skin salve. Get inspired to make your own special blends, and take a sample home with you!

1pm – 1:30pm
Fleece 101 – A Sheep for Every Occasion (Free Class)

There are so many breeds of sheep – how do you choose? Every sheep’s fleece is different and every sheep has a purpose! Come and learn about crimp, staple length, and hand – and where to use each type – as you see and touch a variety of wool from different breeds.

with Rena Bailey
Yes, you can make your own yarn! Experienced instructor Rena will patiently guide you though the process of learning to spin yarn using a drop spindle. All tools and fiber are provided in class, but if you have a spindle you are welcome to bring it, too!

1pm – 4pm
Forest Folks – a Wet and Needle Felting Class
with Anna Anderson
This is the perfect class if you want to learn the difference between wet felting and needle felting. We will use both techniques in this fun beginner friendly class. Students will choose one of several different Forest Folks to make: a witch, wizard, gnome, Leprechaun, elf, fairy, or mushroom gnome.

1:45pm – 2:15pm

Before you use your fleece – you must skirt it! Whether you will be processing your wool yourself, taking it to a processor, or entering your homegrown fleeces into fleece shows – you need to learn how to skirt. Taught by the Spoiled Sheep shepherdess.

2pm – 4pm
with Michele Davon Larson
This introductory course teaches two-dimensional dry needle felt painting techniques. Each student will learn the basic methods for felting a landscape painting including designing the composition, correct needle positioning, placement and felting of wool roving, un-felting techniques, and final steps to complete the wool painting. In this specific course, three different mountain scenes will be available for students to select from for their painting. Students can also select between a 5X7 inch or 5X5 inch painting. No experience or artistic talent is required to create wool painting.

There are many reasons to process your own fleece. Some simply enjoy the hands-on fiber journey. Others prefer to be able to control how their fiber is prepared. Many appreciate the cost savings. And some enjoy all those things! Come and learn how to easily and inexpensively prepare your fiber for spinning or felting using simple tools. This hands-on class is a must for every fiber enthusiast!
